Conceptual issues and theoretical considerations regarding the study of prison labour

The present paper attempts to explore the conceptual challenges in research of prison labour and sketch contours a proposed theoretical framework, which can highlight connection between penal policy tendencies, market dynamics organizational practices regimes. Based on literature review, it is argued, that besides many existing narratives are focused, state also key agent generating, maintaining, or relieving potential tensions two main objectives labour: rehabilitative purposes one hand economic efficiency other. It assumed through conceptualization as most radical manifestation state-imposed unfree labour, possible shed new light state-labour relations. By doing so, could be enriched with some aspects.
